Purency wins Living Standards Award 2021
How do standards drive innovative solutions and what role do future technologies play? The Living Standards Award by Austrian Standards demonstrates this every year. We are proud to announce that the Living Standards Award 2021 was awarded to Purency in the category 'Developing Future Technologies'. It is the most important Austrian award dedicated to standardisation and innovation. Find out more about the winners of 2021 in this press release and watch this video about what Purency does.
The award gives us the opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of standards and a holistic approach to finding solutions. Especially an issue like microplastics that does not leave out any location on this planet benefits from this. Why?
Firstly, results must be comparable across laboratories and time. Secondly, without a standard there is no basis for legislation or other initiatives for the reduction. Thirdly, many stakeholders are hesitant to enter the market. All in all, a standard would lead to an increase in measurements across all industries which will allow us to gain more insights on origin, presence and risk of microplastics. Ultimately, this is the basis for the reduction or at least limitation of microplastics in our ecosystem.
Did you know?Purency is actively involved in the harmonisation and standardisation of microplastics analysis: Co-Founder and CTO of Purency, Benedikt Hufnagl, is an austrian delegate for ISO/TC 61/SC 14/WG 4 "Characterization of plastics leaked into the environment (including microplastics)" since September 2019 and a committee member of ON-AG 047 09 "Kuntstoffe in der Umwelt". There, Benedikt Hufnagl drafted a section of ISO/WD 24187 regarding data processing. This draft aims at providing guidelines for comparing different algorithms for the processing of microplastics data across different measuring instruments.
